Architectural Pairings – Fourth of July
Two contemporary versions of traditional standards
The craftsman detailing of this front porch complements the varied colors and textures of a freshly made potato salad.

Fourth of July Potato Salad, The Recipe
1 celery stalk, finely chopped
1 tart apple (like Granny Smith), finely chopped
1 Tbsp finely chopped red onion
4 Tbsp Hellman’s mayonnaise
6 potatoes, boiled, cooled, and cut into ½” cubes
salt
dill
In a small bowl, combine the celery, apple, onion, and mayonnaise.
In a separate bowl, sprinkle the potato cubes with salt and dill.
Combine all the ingredients, tossing lightly.
Feeds six.
Enjoy on your porch or at the neighborhood park.
Clever! the color and texture of the inside of a cut potato could also be in this palette. In my mind’s eye I see it as subtly textured but smooth, creamy but cool, with a yellowish tint. Occasionally, where the tuber has begun to turn, a darker detail appears. A slight, yet noticeable translucence, like thinly sliced stone.
Victor, I should re-shoot the ingredients with a sliced potato and set all on a piece of cut stone.
Thanks for the insights.
